ATK Mohun Bagan FC bolstered their defence further by adding India player Sandesh Jhingan to their roster on Saturday. The 27-year-old Arjuna awardee signed a five-year contract with the defending ISL champions.

“I am delighted to have joined ATKMB. I had a detailed chat with the coach (Antonio Lopez) and the owners and I admire their vision. I am very happy that they felt that I could be a part of the family,” Jhingan said in a media release, issued by the club.

He is expected to join his Indian teammates in Goa on Sunday.

“I have a lot of friends already there in the team and I am looking forward to join them and start working together,” the India defender stated.

“And also, I want to say to all the loyal fans of ATK MB that together we will become not the only the greatest team in India but in Asia as well,” he added.

Head coach Antonio was excited to get Jhingan in the side.

“Sandesh brings a new energy into the team. He is an adept player and adds immense value to our overall strategy,” the Spaniard said.

Meanwhile, nine foreign footballers, including Jhingan’s new teammate and prolific goal-scorer Fijian Roy Krishna, are set to become first foreign professional sportsmen to arrive in India, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
