Calcutta: Over the years, the national selectors have branded Wriddhiman Saha as a Test specialist, but the 'keeper-batsman himself prefers the 50-over game and the T20 format.
"Yes, it's a fact that my preference is for the two shorter formats. My average for Bengal, I think, is good in the 50-over game and fairly good in the T20 matches...
"Besides, I've got a 55-ball 115 not out (for Kings XI Punjab) in the 2014 IPL final against the Kolkata Knight Riders," Wriddhiman, one of the key performers in the long season of Test cricket, told The Telegraph .
Speaking on Friday afternoon, Wriddhiman said: "I've given you my preference, but I'm aware that the call is always taken by the selectors. It's not something I'd lose sleep over...
"At this point, the selectors feel that I'm suited for Test cricket and that's something I accept and respect."
Wriddhiman has, of course, played in nine ODIs in a four-year period from November 2010, but hasn't represented India in T20Is.
Barring the three Tests he missed against England owing to a left thigh strain, Wriddhiman has been a regular in the oldest and longest format since January 2015.
Never one to look too far ahead, Wriddhiman's goal for now is to have a "successful IPL" and for Kings XI to perform like they did in the 2014 edition.
Having just finished a demanding four-Test series against Australia, will it be tough getting into the T20 mode?
"Actually, it's tougher if you're coming from the T20 format to Test cricket. I don't expect it to be an issue for me," Wriddhiman pointed out.
Wriddhiman was to report at Kings XI on Saturday, but has "requested" that he be allowed to join the Glenn Maxwell-captained franchise a couple of days late.
"After criss-crossing the country right through the season, even a few days more with (wife) Debarati and daughter Anvi are welcome," Wriddhiman signed off.
Wriddhiman, who is 32, has his roots in Siliguri which is where he began playing cricket.
