Calcutta: Leander Paes captured his 37th career doubles title on Sunday when he won with Martin Damm at the Rotterdam meet.
According to information received here, Paes and his Czech partner edged out Andrei Pavel (Romania) and Alexander Waske (Germany) 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-7 in the final on Sunday. This was Paes and Damm’s first crown of the year.
Paes and Damm got the better of Thiermo De Bakker and Ivan Ljubicic 6-7 (7-3), 6-4, 10-6 in the quarters. Then came the interesting one in the semis, where Paes and Damm squeezed out a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 12-10 victory over Mahesh Bhupathi and Nenad Zimonjic.
