Calcutta/Bangalore: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will not be having a head coach, at least in the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra will be the two coaches who would be sharing responsibilities in the next season.
The franchise is also set to recruit two-three assistants in the coaching staff to look after the different departments of the game.
Last week, the three-time IPL runners-up had announced Kirsten as their coach and mentor. On Wednesday, Nehra, who has been RCB's bowling coach since the last IPL, was confirmed to be part of the coaching leadership team along with Kirsten.
"I had the privilege to join the coaching team of RCB last season and feel very passionately about the team. I want to thank the team management for considering me in a leadership position with the franchise and look forward for the successful seasons ahead," he said.
According to RCB chairman Sanjeev Churiwala, Nehra and Kirsten will partner Virat Kohli to help the team deliver better performance after failing to make the play-off stage last season.
"We are very happy to have Ashish Nehra join RCB as part of the coaching leadership team. Ashish and Gary will partner the captain to help the team do better," he said.
The Royal Challengers were largely inconsistent last season, repeatedly failing to seize the key moments that cost them a last-four berth, as they finished sixth with 12 points.
Kirsten and Nehra now have to work with a new set-up after RCB decided to do away with the services of their long-time backroom staff members - Daniel Vettori, Trent Woodhill and Andrew McDonald.
