Calcutta: Ashok Malhotra is upset with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the "kind of treatment" that has been meted out to him in the last few years.

Likely to lose the Bengal under-23 coach's job with Ranadeb Bose and Sourashish Lahiri tipped to take over, what annoys Malhotra more is questions raised about his health by some sections in the CAB.

"Coaching Bengal is not my birthright. I have no issues if the association wants to remove me and bring in someone else.

"But how is it being said that I'm not keeping well? I'm perfectly healthy and nothing's wrong with me," the former India player and Bengal coach fumed.

"It was under my coaching that the Bengal senior team had reached the Ranji Trophy semi-finals after so many years (in the 2013-14 season). But even at that time, I was axed all of a sudden. I had no hint about what was in store for me.

"This time, too, the same thing is being done. Mind you, I have attended all the sessions with the under-23 side.

"Having said that, it's the association's prerogative to decide on a coach. But how are questions being raised about my health? It's really very disappointing."

Malhotra added that he would try and seek an explanation regarding this issue from the CAB. "Nowadays I don't visit the CAB on a regular basis. But I will certainly take this matter up.

"I'm not just a former Bengal player, but have played for India and been a national selector as well.

"There are better ways of treating a former cricketer," he said.
