Calcutta: The Malan brothers - Pieter, Andre and Janneman - claimed their place in the annals of the game when all three of them scored first-class centuries on the same day of the same match in the latest round of the South African provincial three-day ties played over the past weekend.

The eldest of the three, Pieter, turned out for Western Province while his two siblings were in the North West line-up, a match that the latter won by seven wickets off the second last ball at the Newlands in Cape Town to maintain their unbeaten run in pool A of the competition.

Pieter scored an unbeaten 117 (185 balls, 15 fours and a six) in Western Province's second innings, but Janneman (135 off 158 balls, 16 fours and two sixes) and Andre (103 not out off 106 balls, seven fours and two sixes) made short work of North West's run chase, registering a seven-wicket win, said a Cricket South Africa (CSA) release.

Both Pieter and Andre, in fact, departed for nought in the first innings, but they pulled themselves up and delivered as their team had to chase down 351.

The Malan family now have scored six first-class centuries between them this season, with Pieter being the leading run scorer in the competition so far, tallying 606 runs at an average of 202 with three centuries.

Inspite of this setback, Western Province maintain a healthy lead in pool A although North West have a game in hand while Northerns have two.

Western Province lost only eight wickets in the match against North West which was also a disappointing end to the career of captain Sybrand Engelbrecht, who is retiring to enter the world of commerce.

Nevertheless, individually, he could be well satisfied with his contribution of 166 (203 balls, 29 fours) to the Western Province first innings.

Runs were in plentiful supply over the weekend with Yaseen Valli (144) and Devon Conway (175 not out) putting on a season's best 303 for the second wicket for Gauteng in their 95-run victory over Namibia.
