
Calcutta: La Martiniere for Boys with 154 points and Modern High School with 152 emerged overall champions of the 4th Inter-School Athletics Championship, organised by the Debanjan Sen Foundation, on Monday.
Duane Andrews of La Martiniere and Aneequel Abedin of St James' came out on top among boys in the under-19 section with 19 points each, while St James' Arkayan Ganguly and Aniket Dey of Techno India Group Public School were the under-16 and under-13 champions with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Arkayan, Duane and Aneequel were adjudged the best athletes, having finished with 19 points apiece.
Among the girls, the champions were Arian Haque of Future Foundation (under-19, 19 points), Shreya Banik of St Xavier's Institution (under-16, 19 points) and Julia Kundu of Modern High (under-13, 17 points). Shreya and Arian, 19 points each, were the best among the girls.
Arian created a games record as she clocked 14.22 in under-19 girls' 100m. Prajna Mondal of Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir stood first in under-16, while Ojashwi Niyogi of The Heritage School clocked 14.00 to create a games record in the under-13 category.
Aneequel, meanwhile, clocked 5:09.91 to finish first in the under-19 boys' 1500m, while in under-16, Kemp O'Brien of The Frank Anthony Public School created a games record, clocking 5:14.70. In 800m, it was Aneequel again who clocked 2:28.15 to finish on top, while Amir Yajdani (2:22.69) of DPS Newtown and Lihaj Islam of Techno India Group Public School (2:42.90) created games records in under-16 and under-13 categories, respectively.
In 100m, Abhijit Jena of Julien Day, Elgin Road created a games record, clocking 11.50.
