Calcutta: The Kolkata Knight Riders, after a meeting with the Cricket Association of Bengal, has decided to use the giant-sized banner that has covered the façade at the Eden sparingly during IPL VIII.

It has been decided that the banner, with pictures of KKR stars, will only be used on match days and will be removed on the other days.

However, it is not really a victory for the CAB, rather the association has only bowed to the demands of the IPL franchise. That is because, it is on match days that the maximum number of people will visit the Eden, not otherwise. So the cricket legends Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, who are part of the façade, will remain hidden behind the KKR banner when thousands of fans will visit the stadium.

A top official, on Monday, minced no words to express his displeasure on the attitude of the franchise. But it took less than 24 hours for the association to tone down its voice on the entire issue.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore was scheduled to meet CAB and BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, and other top officials of the association to discuss the matter on Tuesday. But according to sources, there was just a teleconference with Mysore, after which it was agreed that the banner will be put up only on match days.

Officially though, the CAB continues with the stance that shows it is still peeved with the Shah Rukh Khan-co-owned franchise. "KKR's actions have hurt our sentiments. We have made it clear to them that the branding work should be removed," treasurer Biswarup Dey said.

According to an insider, "The branding work will be removed after the match (versus Royal Challengers Bangalore) on Saturday. Thereafter, it will be back again when KKR play next on April 26 (against the Rajasthan Royals). In other words, it will be out there whenever KKR play here at the Eden."

To put it in plain and simple words, the CAB just doesn't want to get into a conflict with the KKR. "The association doesn't want to spoil its relationship with the franchise. It wants to avoid any kind of conflict," the insider said.

"The franchise spent around Rs 25 lakh on that banner. So that is also something that cannot be ignored completely," he added. Money matters.
