Kolkata Knight Riders might be left hamstrung if Andre Russell is ruled out of action with injury.

It was during the 17th over of Chennai Super Kings’ innings on Sunday when Russell saved a boundary at the deep and immediately limped off the playing arena and was attended by the physio.

The Knight Riders rued the fact that Russell couldn’t bowl the all-important penultimate over that practically took the game away from them, when Ravindra Jadeja smashed Prasidh Krishna for 20 off four balls.

“Russell would’ve bowled the 19th over, but unfortunately, he got injured,” KKR mentor David Hussey said at the post-match media conference.

“It is still too early to tell. Russell said that he felt something pop in his hamstring, but we have got the best medical staff in business and they will look after him. Hopefully, nothing too serious with him because he’s a key player for us. Hopefully, he comes back and lights up the tournament,” Hussey added.

The Knights’ next match is against Delhi Capitals in Sharjah on Tuesday.

Hussey also backed Prasidh, who had a decent outing with the ball till the penultimate over of the Super Kings innings. “Prasidh has been an amazing death-over bowler for us,” he said.
