Debjit to start career as coach

Former India footballer Debjit Ghosh’s coaching career will begin at Bhawanipore Club. This was announced at a felicitation on Friday evening for the players of Bhawanipore Club who emerged champions in the third division this season.

Debjit will be in charge jointly of the team next season with Dibyendu Ghosh.

Cricket trials

The Eastern Zone Cricket & Talent Development Institute has come forward to promote and help needy but talented cricketers fulfil their potential. Manabendra Ghosh, who coached Manoj Tiwary, and Swapan Das will be choosing boys and girls from the trials to be conducted on October 30 and 31.

Badminton

The Coal India East Zone Inter-State Badminton Championships will be held at the Khudiram Anusilan Kendra from Saturday through Monday. About 135 players from UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Uttaranchal and Bengal will take part.

Veterans meet

The All India Senior Tennis Association will organise a tournament for veterans at the South Club from Sunday through Friday. Singles and doubles will be held in three categories: 45 years and above, 55 and above, 65 and above. Rs 5 lakh will be up for grabs.

Table tennis

Alekhya Sengupta and Saikat Bhattacharya entered the nursery boys final in the B.M. Chattoraj Memorial table tennis meet at Rabindra Sarobar on Friday. Alekhya dismissed Sayan Das 11-5, 11-0 and Saikat edged out Rohan Basu 12-10, 11-9.
