Durand Cup dilemma for Bagan

Mohun Bagan secretary Anjan Mitra voiced the club’s concern over the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi, the venue for the upcoming Durand Cup. “We will be writing a letter to the tournament committee soon asking for the necessary measures to be taken to improve the ground condition of the stadium,” he said.

“There’s N.S. Manju who was injured due to the poor pitch… So, if things don’t improve, we may have a rethink on participating in the Durand Cup,”

Meanwhile, Bagan have asked the Indian Football Association (IFA) to arrange for some practice sessions at the newly-laid artificial turf at the Salt Lake Stadium, where the IFA Shield semi-finals and final will be played.

CAB workshop

The Cricket Association of Bengal will be organising a 3-day centralised district umpires’ workshop at the Dr. B.C. Roy Club House, Eden Gardens from August 28-30. About 50 umpires from the districts are expected to attend the workshop.

Celebrations

The Bengal Olympic Association, in association with the Bengal Hockey Association and West Bengal State Council of Sports, will be celebrating the National Sports Day, on Saturday, at the Town Hall.

Meanwhile, sports minister M.S. Gill has also invited former Davis Cupper Akhtar Ali to attend the National Sports Day function to be held in New Delhi.
