Deep Dasgupta to lead in Chandigarh meet

Deep Dasgupta will lead the 14-member Bengal squad in the J. P. Atray tournament, starting in Chandigarh next week. Coach Paras Mhambrey will fly to Bangalore to watch the Sourasish Lahiri-led team play in the Canara Centenary Trophy and then join the other squad in Chandigarh.

THE SQUAD: Deep Dasgupta (captain), Subhamoy Das, Anustup Majumdar, Murtaza Lodhgar, Manoj Tewari, Ritam Kundu, Prinan Dutta, Shib Shankar Paul, Asok Dinda, Avik Mullick, Eklakh Ahmed, Partha Sarathi Bhattacharya, Santadeep Paul, Arup Tripathy. Coach: Paras Mhambrey. Manager: Samir Dasgupta.

Gomes for Irani tie

International umpire Francis Gomes will officiate the Irani Trophy tie between Ranji Trophy champions Railways and Rest of India in New Delhi from October 1-5.

Super Division

Kidderpore defeated Calcutta Customs 3-1 in a CFL Super Division tie the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium on Thursday. West Bengal Police played out a 1-1 draw with CFC while SAIL held Mohammedan AC 3-3.

Anit letter

After I. M. Vijayan, former East Bengal defender Anit Ghosh has written to East Bengal about his willingness to play for the club in the 2005-06 season.

Ghosh also had a practice session with East Bengal players on Thursday.

CU win

Calcutta University thrashed Rabindra Bharati University 5-1 in the Vidyasagar Trophy match at the CU ground on Thursday. Indranil Mukherjee (2), Biswajit Dutta, Ayan Pramanik and Ashis Das scored for the winners.
