New Delhi: Badminton Association of India (BAI) has approached Danish legend Morten Frost to coach the India men’s and women’s teams till the 2016 Olympic.

According to a senior BAI official, Japan’s Korean coach Park Joo Bong, considered one of the greatest doubles player in the history of the game, was first asked to take up the Indian assignment. Bong, who guided Japan to their maiden Thomas Cup title on Sunday, declined the offer.

“We are looking for a big name who could bring a complete change in Indian badminton and take it to a greater height,” the official said. “That’s the reason we have approached Frost. He could be a coach for both singles and doubles. We are now waiting for his response.”

A four-time All-England champion in the 80s, Frost has also developed into a successful coach. Under him, Denmark won 20 international tournaments, including an Olympic gold medal.

The official, however, denied that the attempt to bring Frost could be the first step towards removing Pullela Gopichand from the post of chief national coach.
