Calcutta, Aug. 9 :    Calcutta, Aug. 9:  Conceding two goals in the last 15 minutes had ruined a reasonably decent performance by East Bengal against SAIL Tuesday. A couple more, this time in second-half added-on time, saved the glamour team the disgrace of two successive draws as they laboured to a 2-0 win over Bhratri Sangha in Friday's Super Division match. The lacklustre performance won't be remembered because what matters is points and East Bengal moved to seven after three matches. Bhratri Sangha, placed fourth last year, stayed on four points after five outings. But on Friday, for almost 90 minutes, Bhratri must have thought they had added one more. A bright move starkly in contrast with the day's proceedings brought the cheers back in the East Bengal camp. It came at a time when the staunchest of supporters had started the countdown to yet another stalemate. Bhratri's Nigerian striker Amaechi lost the ball near the left touchline from where Subhashish Roy Chowdhury sent it to Subhas Chakraborty just outside the penalty box. The junior India medio wasted no time in spotting Dipankar Roy towards the left edge of the box and the medio foxed the hitherto tight defence with a terrific turn and promptly essayed a floater for Mike Okoro. The Nigerian timed his jump to perfection for his fourth goal in his third match in Calcutta. The goal took the steam out of Bhratri and Dipankar celebrated by disturbing the Bhratri net again a minute later. Barring the move that fetched the first goal, the red-and-gold brigade was shockingly off-colour. The coach felt his team was far better in the 2-2 draw in the last game and he was spot-on. The Bhratri medios and defenders were playing close to each other, allowing little room to explore and exploit. Barring the odd moments in the first half, East Bengal didn't look as if they were going to score. With the midfield not creating anything, the East Bengal defence suggested they are yet to recover from the trauma of the last match. In the seventh minute, Anit Ghosh first picked out a rival with a clumsy pass inside the defending zone and lost the subsequent challenge. But Amaechi, the beneficiary, seemed reluctant to charge in and his shot from a distance went wide. Two minutes later, a cross from the left created more confusion in the heart of the defence with two defenders and goalkeeper Sandip Nandy being unable to decide who would go for it. The 'keeper finally did but hadn't had the time to collect and fisted it forward from where Dipankar Biswas' shot was kicked out from the goalline by Anit. The East Bengal defence kept things tight after that but elsewhere, there was nothing to write home about. There was a slew of miss passes, no move worth mentioning and most annoyingly, the will to change things was seldom seen. With Okoro and Kulathungan muffing up the odd chances they forced, another draw looked imminent. But Bhratri relaxed vigil for a fraction of second and that was that.
