Bijoyee Sangha and Eastern Railway stormed into the
semi-finals of the state volleyball championship for women today. Playing
at the Khrut Dharmatola courts in Howrah, where the meet has moved from
the WBVA courts for the knockout stage, Bijoyee sent Kalyan Parishad packing
25-22, 25-19, 25-16 today before internationals Mahamaya Samaddar and Sarbani
Kundu and junior India player Swapna Das powered the railway women to a
25-15, 25-16, 25-9 win over Garden Reach Sports Association.
In the semi-finals, Bijoyee will take on the
winners of tomorrow?s quarter-final between South easter Railway and Academy
of Sports and Games, Barasat. The winners of the Khurut Dharmatola-Sabuj
Sangha match will meet Eastern Railway.
The men?s knockout stage begins at the Union AC
courts in Bhadreswar on Friday.
Second-seeded Ragini Vimal beat third seed Reddhina
Parekh for a berth in the final of the ladies singles at the 35th Saturday
Club Floodlit tennis tournament today. Her 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win takes her
into a summit showdown with Reddhina?s younger sister Priyanka. The fourth-seeded
Priyanka shocked top seed Oindrila Majumder 6-2, 6-1.
Ragini and Priyanka clash in the girls? under-18
event too following the former?s 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Sourima Biswas in
the quarter final. Reddhina and Sharmistha Choudhuri meet in the other
semi-final.
Fourth seed Arpit Sharma and top seed Karan Singh
Dhillon will take on each other for the boys? under-12 title. Archita Agarwal
and Pooja Mitra will clash for the ladies? handicap crown.
