Captain Shreyas Iyer is quite clear about the brand of cricket he wants Kolkata Knight Riders to play in the IPL, which begins next Saturday.

As for the mindset, the team’s interest has to be first and foremost, Shreyas emphasised.

“Obviously, throwing the punch from ball one and being aggressive right from the onset is the kind of mindset you need to have. When I go out to bat, I have that kind of mindset and when I lead, I want such kind of intensity from the players,” the skipper said.

“And if it comes from the coach, it’s greater because the energy is basically provided by the coach while the captain is the one who guides on the field.

“In other words, the mindset has to be to go out there and express ourselves as much as possible, not to have much regrets when we get off the field and whatever you do, you do it for the team and you place yourself second,” Shreyas elaborated.

Although he’s flexible about his position in the batting order, Shreyas seems to prefer batting at No.3. “The responsibility has to be taken by all players to go out there and see to it that they can win the games and not rely on others. For me, personally, I feel No.3 is my position because I love to bat there and I’ve been batting there since long.

“But I have also been very flexible as per the team requirements. I am comfortable with that and come what may, I’m ready to explore,” he said.

Like his predecessors, Shreyas too is banking on off-spinner Sunil Narine to be the impact player he has been for KKR over the years. “Whenever I’ve played against him, I always felt he’s that kind of a character who likes to be on his own, likes to work quietly and also kind of reserved as a player. That’s why he’s so lethal when it comes to KKR,” the skipper stated.
