Cooch Behar Trophy: Bengal in quarters

Captain Abhishek Porel has scored in excess of 700 runs in the competition with three centuries

Bengal U-19 defeated Andhra U-19 by 57 runs in New Delhi on Thursday to top their group and advance into the Cooch Behar Trophy quarter finals. Setting Andhra a target of 244, Bengal rode on leg-spinner Siddharth Singh’s 7/64 to bowl the opposition out for 186.

Bengal will face Haryana in the quarter finals from January 11 in Pune.

Captain Abhishek Porel has scored in excess of 700 runs in the competition with three centuries. Devang Gandhi, the head coach, feels Porel deserves a berth in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy squad and the Cricket Association of Bengal would try and make sure he makes the cut .

Brief scores: Bengal U-19 316 & 221. Andhra U-19 294 & 186. Bengal U-19 won by 57 runs.
