Smriti Mandhana’s blistering 91 off 99 balls and fifties from Yastika Bhatia and captain Harmanpreet Kaur helped India Women thrash England Women by seven wickets in the first one-dayer in Hove on Sunday. After inviting England to bat first, the India bowlers put up a disciplined show to restrict the hosts to 227/7 in 50 overs.

India then raced to the target in 44.2 overs to begin the ODI series on a positive note after losing the T20Is 1-2. India didn’t have a great start to their chase losing Shafali Verma in the second over. But Mandahan and Yastika shared a 98-run partnership for the second wicket to keep the team firmly on the track. Once Yastika was out, Mandhana joined hands with Harmanpreet to put on another 98 runs for the third wicket. While Yastika was out for50 off 47 balls, Harmapreet remained unbeaten on 74 off 94balls.

Earlier, Alice Davidson-Richards top scored for England with 50 not out. Deepti Sharma got two wickets for India.
