Calcutta: Former Bengal captain Palash Nandy has been chosen for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)'s Lifetime Achievement award this year. This was decided after a meeting of the CAB's board of trustees.
"Nandy has been chosen keeping in mind his seniority and contribution to Bengal cricket. Dipankar Sarkar, Sambaran Banerjee and Barun Burman's names also came up for discussion," CAB president Sourav Ganguly said on Thursday.
The date for the annual awards function hasn't been finalised, though.
Nandy, who was also a part of the support staff of Bengal's Ranji Trophy winning squad in 1989-90, said this was the best recognition he has received in his cricketing career. "I have been Bengal captain and was a part of the support staff in 1989-90... But nothing can match this...," said Nandy.
Besides his cricketing exploits, Nandy has also played a huge role as coach in shaping the careers of several youngsters in the Maidan. "I don't have regrets... Cricket has changed a lot... Now players get to play for the national team after playing in the IPL. It was very different during our days."
