Calcutta: In a major setback to India's preparations for the challenging tour of England, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and off-spinner Washington Sundar were ruled out of the T20I series that starts Tuesday.

Bumrah sustained a left thumb fracture while fielding in the first T20I against Ireland in Malahide on Wednesday. Bumrah, in fact, didn't play the second T20I versus Ireland on Friday.

He, however, is expected to be fit for the ODIs. Bumrah had completed his four overs in the first T20I against Ireland, finishing with figures of two for 19. Bumrah is likely to be replaced by Deepak Chahar, who's currently with the India A squad in England, playing the 50-over tri-series also featuring England Lions and West Indies A.

Shardul Thakur coming in as a replacement is also a possibility, though. Sundar, on the other hand, has a right ankle injury.

Meanwhile, England's Dawid Malan has been called up as a cover for seamer Tom Curran for the T20Is.
