Calcutta: Brad Hogg Wednesday announced his retirement from international cricket to join a mass exodus of Australian cricketers.

The spinner in a Cricket Australia release said he would leave the international arena after next week’s Commonwealth Bank series finals. He however added that he was yet to take a decision regarding his future with the Western Warriors.

“I feel the time is right to call an end to my international career, I am extremely comfortable with my decision. I wanted to bow out while I was still on top of my game and while I was not letting my team mates down in any way,” Hogg said in a release.

The 37-year-old left-arm spinner is the third Australian in the past month after Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Tait to have announced retirement.

Hogg added: “I would obviously like to thank my wife Andrea and my children Maddie and Gavin, my mum and the rest of my extended family for the support they have given throughout my career. I also thank the cricketers of Williams Cricket Association, Tarwonga Cricket Club and everyone that was involved with me at the three grade teams I played at Willetton, Melville and Fremantle thankyou for the opportunity and the enjoyment.”

Hogg finished his career with 154 wickets from 121 one-day games at an average of 26.73. He was a member of the sides who won the 2003 and 2007 World Cups.

Having made his debut against India in 1996, Hogg featured seven Tests. His last Test appearance was also against India last month.
