India women will need vast improvement in their batting effort when they take the field for the second ODI against Australia, who are on a 25-match winning streak, on Friday and it seems batting coach Shiv Sunder Das has chalked out a plan.

India were blown away in the opening game by nine wickets with the hosts being better in every department of the game. But primarily, it’s batting where the Mithali Raj-captained side needs to add more weight.

“We are looking at the top-order to give us a good start and the middle order — they have worked hard in the last few sessions — we have some plans.

“I think they’ll play differently in this game,” former India opener Das said.

“We have Shafali (Verma) and Smriti (Mandhana)... I am positive they will give a good start and once we score 60-70 runs in the (first) 10 overs, we can carry that momentum in the middle overs… in the middle overs we are looking at an average of five runs and in the end we are looking at six runs per over,” he added.

In comparison to India, Australia’s batting line-up looks stronger and in form.

The Australian pace attack completely overpowered the Indians in the last game and that too is something that the visitors will be worried about.

Vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who missed the first game with a thumb injury, will be unavailable for the second match as well.

l Match starts: 10.40am IST
