Alviro denies charge
Johannesburg: Former Test batsman Alviro Petersen on Sunday rejected a Cricket South Africa (CSA) charge that he fixed matches in the national Twenty20 franchise championship last season. “Alviro has never fixed a match, agreed to fix a match or contrived to fix a match,” his lawyer said in a statement. “He has never sought, accepted, agreed to accept or received any bribe or other reward to fix or contrive to fix a match.”
Steyn surgery
Calcutta: South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has had a successful surgery to repair the shoulder blade fracture he sustained in the first Test match against Australia in Perth last week. The surgery was done in Cape Town by a renowned shoulder specialist and is the first positive step towards recovery for the 33-year-old.

Paris: Forward Antoine Griezmann has been ruled out of France’s friendly against Ivory Coast on Tuesday because of a foot injury, the French soccer federation (FFF) said on Sunday. Griezmann picked up the injury during Les Bleus’ 2-1 victory over Sweden in a World Cup Group A qualifier last Friday.

Calcutta: Honey Baisoya won the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Open Golf in Shillong on Wednesday. Baisoya shot a resolute four-under-66 in the final round at the Shillong Golf Course to win by two shots with a tournament tally of nine-under-271.
