Colombo: Afghanistan’s ’keeper Mohammed Shahzad, who is a “big fan” and a “good friend” of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, dropped in at the Taj Samudra on Thursday afternoon for an adda session with the India captain.

Baat karen ge... I’ll also gather some tips... Bade player se baat karne par kuch aadmi seekhta hi hai... I don’t have anything specific in mind, though,” Shahzad told The Telegraph.

The two met in 2010, during the last edition of the World Twenty20, and have been “good friends” since.

Shahzad hurt his left knee in the match against India on Wednesday and is doubtful for Friday’s face-off versus holders England.

“The swelling is a bit less, but I’m in pain and, as you can see, movement restricted hai... I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to play,” Shahzad said.

Afghanistan’s problem is that there’s no second specialist ’keeper in the squad. Against India, Karim Sadiq had to take over from Shahzad.

Shahzad, by the way, has ended Dhoni’s monopoly over the ’copter shot. He seemed amused when one talked about it.

“Media kaafi baat kar rahi thi, so I thought I must oblige (picking on Zaheer Khan)... I don’t play it recklessly,” Shahzad explained.

Echoing the view of just about everybody here, Shahzad felt that the India result may have been “very different” had catches not been dropped.

“The target (160) was gettable,” Shahzad maintained. As it turned out, Afghanistan got bowled out for 136.
