Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have bought Varun Chakravarthy (Rs 4 crore), who played only one match in last year’s IPL for Kings XI Punjab.

“I didn’t expect to get such high price. I would like to thank KKR captain Dinesh Karthik and mentor for KKR academy Abhishek Nayar. They always boost my confidence, especially when I was down.

“I have got the opportunity to prove myself and I am looking forward to give my best for my new team,” the mystery spinner told The Telegraph on Thursday evening.

The spinner started his career as a wicketkeeper-batsman at the age of 13. But he decided to quit the game as soon as he joined college.

Chakravarthy, a Bachelor of Architect, worked for two years in an architecture firm.

He suddenly decided to leave the job and started playing the game again but as a pacer. He picked up a knee injury while playing a club game and then he decided to become a spinner.

“I will be at the same squad with West Indies spinner Sunil Narine, so I hope I will get some valuable tips from him. That will help me to do well in the coming days,” he said.
