The power of a button will likely be seen in the next iPhone Pro models. Rumour is that Apple may plan a new Action button to replace the mute switch on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The suggestion — first reported by MacRumors — picked up steam after a new iOS 17 beta release, which may hold clues to what’s coming in the next iPhone.

The Action button was first seen on the Apple Watch Ultra and it’s used to access specific features and apps, including shortcuts. On the iPhone it will reportedly replace the physical ring/silent switch and will also give Pro model users instant access to a variety of functions and settings without having to go through software options. According to MacRumors, the code apparently shows several quick actions that will be available for the Action button.

What we could be looking at is the ability to set the Action button to access the Accessibility menu, Shortcuts, Silent Mode, Camera, Flashlight, Focus, Magnifier, Translate, and Voice Memos. iPhone photographers may find it helpful because the new button can be assigned to a dedicated Camera app launcher.

The iPhone 15 series is expected to launch in September and there could be four models in the same sizes as the iPhone 14 models, including two 6.1-inch iPhones and two 6.7-inch iPhones. One of the 6.1-inch iPhones will be the standard iPhone 15, while one of the 6.7-inch models will be an iPhone 15 Plus. The other two will be 6.1 and 6.7-inch Pro models.

It is also rumoured that there could be USB-C port instead of a Lightning port on all of the iPhone 15 models, and the Dynamic Island is going to be available for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in addition to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. As for the processor, the standard iPhone 15 models will get an upgrade to the A16 chip while the iPhone 15 Pro models will use the more efficient 3-nanometer A17 chips.
