Wireless earbuds, what’s new? Tell you what, plenty, but these first come through on products from Apple and Samsung. Just arrived for review is Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Pro, which appears to distinguish itself from the many available in the market.

Our first impression of the device is that there is solid active noise cancellation or drowning outside sounds. Samsung claims that the new set of audio cans block out almost all external background noises, which is a big promise but first impressions suggest it’s true. The outside world does disappear.

Now, ANC is impressive but rarely do we focus on the ambient sound mode, which is something more important while walking down streets or taking the subway. The mode allows outside noises in without you having to kill the music.

On the app, you can adjust the ambient sound level, which is a very useful feature. The app allows access to EQ settings, touch control settings and voice detection settings. The last mentioned is an interesting mode to have. Once the Buds Pro detects your voice, it goes into ambient sound mode. So if a person approaches you while music is playing, the volume is turned down while ambient sounds are channelled in.

Buds come with a dual-driver design — 11mm woofers and 6.5mm tweeter, ensuring sounds are crisp across genres. Is it comparable to AirPods Pro? We will find out over the next few days as we pen a detailed review. The new windshield technology is also something we are keeping our ears out for. It basically cuts off the wind while you are taking a call via Buds Pro.

You can’t connect the Buds to two devices simultaneously but there’s 360 Audio with Dolby Head Tracking, which is a take on spatial audio. The Buds are IPX7 water resistant, which makes it fine for a quick splash in the pool. Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro can be yours for Rs 15,990.
