Balasore: The dialysis and the CT scan units will be operational in the Government Medical College and Hospital here by April first week.
In a review meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti, held under the chairmanship of Balasore MP R.K. Jena, it was decided that the equipment for advance tests would be installed in the hospital by March.
Chief district medical officer Bibekananda Das has been asked to make the arrangements.
"The chief district medical officer is not only urged to make the units functional by March end, but also asked to advertise the availability of the specialised facilities in the hospital through hoardings and banners in prominent places across the district for public information," said Jena.
District collector Ramesh Chandra Rout and other health department officials, including the national health mission and elected representatives, were also present at the meeting. "The district health authorities have been further urged to initiate the process to procure machines for the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and establishment of a hi-tech laboratory," he said.
These units, dialysis and CT scan are also crucial for the government medical college and hospital, scheduled to start operation from the next academic session (2018-19). The headquarters hospital would be functioning as a health care facility, while the college classes would be operating from the newly constructed building at Remuna. As many as 114 doctors, including professors, assistant professors, associated professors, senior resident and junior resident doctors, have been posted additionally for the medical college. The posting of the paramedics is in progress, said Das.
"The National Health Mission would provide the machineries for CT scan and dialysis. The procurement process is under way," said Das.
"For the MRI unit, we are yet to find a suitable building. It would be finalised shortly," he said, adding the hospital providing chemotherapy to the patients.
