Guwahati, Oct. 26: City-based White Feather Sports Academy is organising a two-week exposure tour of Sri Lanka for under-17 school cricketers from November 2.
Fourteen players from various schools of the state were selected to undertake the tour to the island nation.
The team will be accompanied by coach Tilak Das and former Assam Ranji player and technical adviser to the academy, Syed Zakaria Zuffri.
“This is the first overseas cricket exposure tour for a school squad from Assam. We have tied up with the Nuwara Eliya Cricket Academy, which is affiliated to the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. The team will play 10 matches with schools and academies in Colombo and Kandy,” Zuffri said.
The 14 players are Rishiraj Borah, Marvelin Deka, Shashank Bora, Shiwang Das, Ratul Dey, Ajoy Sharma, Dhurjyoti Kashyap, Bikash Basfore, Abhinash Terang, Mrinal Haloi, Surendra Singh, Rahul Kumar, Samardeep Das and Arindam Bhuyan.
The team was selected by the academy after a trial conducted for school children from different parts of the state in July.
“Four players are from Don Bosco School (Panbazar), two each from St Claret, Borjhar, Montfort (Jorabat) and St Francis D’Assisi, and one each from Salt Brook Academy (Dibrugarh), South Point School, DPS and NIOS. The team will leave Guwahati on November 2 and return on November 15,” Zuffri added.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Anthony Thekkel, principal of Don Bosco School, motivated the players to put up a good show in Sri Lanka.
