Guwahati: A two-day consultative workshop on recognition of prior learning (RPL) under Prime Minister Kaushal Vikash Yojana 2.0 is being organised by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) in collaboration with the National Skill Development Council on the IIE campus here from Tuesday.

RPL is a platform to recognise informal learning or learning through work to get equal acceptance as formal streams of education.

IIE director Manoj Kumar Das told reporters on Saturday, "RPL aims to align the competencies of the unregulated workforce of the country to National Skills Qualifications Framework, which is a competency-based framework that organises all qualifications according to a series of levels of knowledge, skills and aptitude. Under the scheme, certificates will be provided to those in the unorganised sector who are skilled but not recognised due to lack of formal education."

The workshop aims to plan a roadmap for effective implementation of the scheme in the Northeast and present it during the Global Investors' Summit-Advantage Assam on February 3 and 4 here. It will be attended by representatives of skill development councils of all northeastern states, industry representatives, associations, academics and skill-training providers.

The programme will focus on enhancing the career or employability opportunities of an individual, providing alternative routes to higher education and opportunities for reducing inequalities based on privileges granted to certain forms of knowledge.

"Workers in 40 sectors with different job roles have been identified for a three-day orientation and training. They will be graded on different levels - from L1 to L15. An impediment to the training programme is the lack of motivation on the part of workers due to loss of income, most of them being daily wage earners. A stipend will eliminate this problem," said IIE faculty member A.S. Dewan.
