New Delhi, Oct. 17: The proposed second Northeast business summit has been indefinitely postponed from its earlier scheduled dates of October 21 and 22.
The reason for postponement of the conclave to showcase the region’s business potential has been given as unavoidable circumstances, the forthcoming polls to five states being one of them. The summit was meant to showcase the “unique and competitive advantages of the North-east”. A host of high profile dignitaries including Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, deputy prime minister Lal Krishna Advani and chief ministers of various states and business captains were scheduled to attend the conclave.
The event, touted as the biggest industrial event of the Northeast, was planned to be an improvement over the last year's Mumbai summit. Special sessions were to be organised during the conclave on infrastructure, food processing, energy, bamboo, tourism and other growth areas of the region.
Incidentally, this is the third time that the meet has been postponed. Earlier, it was scheduled to be held in August. However, it was postponed to September 29 and 30, only to be put off again to October 21 and 22.
Manipur curfew: The indefinite curfew on Sunday has been relaxed and will be clamped only at night in Imphal East and West districts, sources said today.
Curfew was reimposed on Sunday after the tense situation arising out of the unconditional release of 13 NSCN (I-M) men and the comments of the Centre’s emissary K. Padmanabhaiah suggesting that a boundary commission be set up.
