Toxic fish death

• Jorhat, Aug. 26: One person died while two others fell sick after eating fish at Mahuwachuk in Majuli this morning. Sources said Debojit Doley, his wife Damayanti and son Bhaiti were sent to

Jengraimukh primary health centre where Debojit was declared dead. His wife and son have been admitted to Garmur civil hospital.

Blockade

• Bongaigaon: The All BTAD Minority Student's Union staged a blockade on National Highway 31C in Chirang and Bongaigaon on Saturday, demanding arrest of those involved in group president Lafiqul Islam's murder on August 1.

Heroin haul

• Silchar: Cachar police seized heroin worth Rs 1 lakh from Bhagabazar, around 40km from here, and arrested Abdul Munaf Borbhuiya, 36, on Saturday.

Flood aid

• Guwahati: Employees of the Northeast Frontier Railway have donated one day's salary for Assam flood victims. Chahatey Ram, general manager of the NFR, handed over a cheque for Rs 1.92 crore to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday.

Landslides

• Aizawl (PTI): At least seven buildings, including a church, collapsed here and in nearby villages following multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains in Mizoram since Thursday, officials said on Saturday.

• Tura: The BSF and the BGB jointly organised a medical camp at Killapara in Meghalaya and at Nakugaon, Bangladesh, on Thursday and Friday, a release said on Saturday.

• Guwahati: Assam prodigy Udit Gogoi defeated Maanav V. Jain of Karnataka to lift the boys' singles title in the AITA National Series under-14 tennis tournament that concluded at Jorhat Tennis Club courts on Saturday.

Cong slur

• Itanagar: The Arunachal PCC on Saturday condemned Union minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju, deputy chief minister Chowna Mein and cabinet minister Mohesh Chai for allegedly disrespecting the Tricolour by cutting a cake with the national flag motif with a dao (scythe).
