Classical programme:

North East Foundation for Cultural and Socio-economic Development will organise a classical music conference and competition on November 8 and 9 at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati. The programme includes competition of classical music in vocal, instrument, dance and fine art. The Sangeet Jyoti award will also be presented to three artistes of Indian classical music of the region.

Children’s competition:

Natraj artiste troupe will organise the first ever, national children drama and dance competition in the Northeast at Ban Theatre, Tezpur from November 14 to 17.

Sir Syed Day:

The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association, Northeast region, will celebrate Sir Syed Day on October 17 at Guwahati. Ex-Aligarians are requested to send their profile to Syed Ghulam Akbar, Shad Complex, S. S. Road, Guwahati.

Teachers’ convention:

First convention of the Forum of Former Medical College Teachers’ of Assam will be held on October 25 at hotel Brahmaputra Ashok, Guwahati.

Refresher course:

Three-week-long UGC-sponsored refresher course in geography on “geography — thought and methods” for college and university teachers will be held at the academic staff college, Gauhati University from December 1.

National seminar:

A national seminar on rotor dynamics NSRD-2003 will be held at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati from December 15-17.

Dance drama:

Sonit Kuwanree, Jyotiprasad Agarwalla’s famous dance drama, will be staged with a unique fusion of Bharatanatyam and folk dance of Kerala and jazz music and waltz in the backdrop. The dance drama, directed by Elora Bora Singh, will be staged by students of Nritya Kalakshetra at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati on October 15 at 6:15 pm.

One-Act Play:

Luitpaar Club of oil colony, Narengi, Guwahati, will organise an all Assam one-act play competition from October 30 to November 1 at oil community pandal, Narengi, Guwahati. Call 0361-2594203, 2594188.

Science examination:

National standard examination in chemistry, biology and physics, organised by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai, will be held all over India on November 23.
