Agartala: In a scathing attack against CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Tripura BJP general secretary Pratima Bhowmik said the communist leader was up to tarnishing the image of the state's BJP-IPFT government with ulterior motives.
At a news conference here on Sunday, Yechury said there is a complete breakdown of law and order situation in Tripura during the BJP's rule. He said four communist party workers were murdered and supporters of the Opposition harassed in the past four months.
The incumbent coalition government assumed office on March 9.
Refuting Yechury's allegations, Bhowmik said his allegations on the law and order situation were "false, baseless and motivated with ulterior interests".
She added that peace is prevailing across the state since the BJP-IPFT government assumed office. Bhowmik also claimed that the general law-and-order situation has improved owing to zero-tolerance policy of the new government against crime.
"Yechury has made these allegations to tarnish the image of state government," she said.
Earlier this month, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who is also president of the state BJP unit, drew stark criticism after commenting that "there is a wave of peace everywhere in the state" to a question on lynchings across Tripura which had cost three lives.
"The CPM has practised the politics of post-poll violence since long here. There were incidents of post-election violence in any election which was held with the CPM ruling Tripura. No BJP supporter has killed any CPM worker," she added.
