ASEB take third spot in league

Guwahati: Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) Sports Club finished third in Group A at the national second division football league, defeating Jammu and Kashmir Bank 1-0 in their last match in Bangalore on Friday. Nitu Narzary scored in the 55th minute. ASEB (six points) had lost to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited 0-4, beaten Hindustan FC of Delhi 2-1 and lost to FC Kochi 1-3.

Pre-Olympics

Imphal: Rower W. Amutombi Singh of Manipur has been selected to for a pre-Olympics qualifier. Amutombi is among two players from the country to get selected for the qualifiers in Japan this month. He was selected for his gold medal-winning feat at the 1,000m (individual) event in the 10th Asian canoeing meet.

Summer camp

Guwahati: Four Assam shuttlers have been selected for a national summer coaching camp in Bangalore from May 20 to June 9. The shuttlers are Ansuman Hazarika, Ankur Barua, Krishna Dekaraja and Rimi Hazarika. Suranjan Bhobora and Dibjyoti Bora have been invited for a summer camp at Panjim, Goa, from May 20. The Assam Badminton Association will host its first state ranking open meet in Mangaldoi from May 17 to 23.

Senior meet

Guwahati: The Basketball Association of Assam will hold its 17th senior inter-district meet at NF Railway Stadium here from May 15 to 17. All affiliated district units should contact the association’s working secretary Dinesh Saikia to confirm their participation. Players for the 2005 National Games coaching camp, beginning in Nagaon from June 1, will be selected from the meet.

U-21 tourney

Imphal: The All Manipur Football Association has selected 18 players for the Dutta Roy Trophy 13th under-21 national football meet at Bhagalpur in Bihar from May 25. The team comprises Narakanta, Imojit, I. Shanta, Duidang, Somorendro, Brojen, Santosh, Prameshore, Raman, Sanjay, Robin, Somen, Bisheshore, Paolin, Banny, Deshkumar, Shyama and Ibotombi.
