Guwahati, Feb. 11: Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sports Club emerged overall champions and Abhiruchi Institute of Physical Education (AIPE) SC the runners-up in the two-day Ranjit Gogoi Guwahati Sports Association annual inter-club/institutions athletics championship that concluded at Nehru Stadium here today.
The SAI athletes tallied 33 gold, 13 silver and two bronze for the top slot, while the Abhiruchi Institute grabbed 35 medals, including 14 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze.
Maharana Athletic Club finished third with nine gold, seven silver and three bronze.
Green Valley SC and Young Amateur Club shared five gold each to be placed fourth and fifth respectively, with eight silver and 12 bronze for Green Valley and six silver and four bronze for the Amateurs.
Nichols High School bagged a gold, three silver and four bronze, while Assam Railway Higher Secondary School and Bengali Girls’ High School were placed seventh and eighth respectively. Don Bosco School failed to win any medals.
Padum Das and Pallavi Saikia of SAI were adjudged the Best Male and Best Female athletes while Ujjwal Jha of Nichols High School was adjudged the Most Promising Athlete from the educational institutions.
Abhiruchi sprinters Nayan Das and Ainu Sonowal emerged the fastest man and woman respectively in the meet.
Das clocked 12.30 seconds in the 100metre sprint and Sonowal timed it at 14.86 seconds.
Altogether 132 athletes from five clubs and four educational institutions participated in the meet.
The clubs were SAI SC, Maharana Athletic Club, Young Amateur Club, Green Valley SC and Abhiruchi Institute of Physical Education (AIPE) SC.
Don Bosco School, Nichols High School, Bengali Girls’ High School and Assam Railway Higher Secondary School were the educational institutions participating in the meet.
