Shillong, Feb. 23: Various parts of Meghalaya were left in darkness this evening following a reported collapse in the Northeast grid.
Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) public relations officer P.P. Kaur said at 6.13pm, several parts of Meghalaya and the Northeast were plunged into darkness following a collapse in the Northeast grid.
"The Northeast grid had collapsed following the tripping of the Palatana power plant at 6.13pm," Kaur said.
The 726MW combined cycle plant of the ONGC-Tripura Power Corporation (OTPC) is located at Palatana.
Following the collapse, several places in the state reeled under darkness for nearly two hours.
Power supply was restored to most of the places by around 8pm.
Kaur said efforts were on to restore power supply in the remaining affected areas across the state.
