Parikshit eyes twin crowns

Guwahati, Nov. 24: Parikshit Somani of India will eye for double crowns in the ITF Juniors World Ranking Tennis Tournament at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex, here tomorrow.

The Assam lad today sailed into the finals of the both boys' singles and doubles events. In the singles semi-finals today, Parikshit defeated compatriot Sumitpal Singh 6-1, 6-1 in a roller-coaster ride for the winner.

In the other boys' singles semi-final, Nitin Sinha eased past another Indian lad Aditya Vashistha 6-2, 6-2. Nitin also made it to the the boys' doubles final.

In the doubles semi-finals, the top seed duo of Nitin and Aditya Vashistha defeated another Indian pair of Amit Beniwal and Sacchit Sharma 6-3, 6-4, while second seed Parikshit and Kabir Manrai (India) prevailed over Nikit Reddy and Karan Srivastava, also of India, 6-2, 6-2 to book the final berths.

In the girls' singles, top seed Korean Eunhye Lee will meet fourth seed Vaidehi Choudhury of India in the final tomorrow. In the round of four, Eunhye beat seventh seed Indian Sravya Shivani Chilakalapudi 6-0, 6-3, while Vaidehi upset second seed Maria Krupenina of Russia 6-0, 6-4.

Maria, however, made it to the doubles final in tandem with Indian partner Shrivalli Rashmika Bhamidipaty by defeating Eunhye and her Indian partner Bhavya Ramineni 6-4, 6-3.

In the final, they will play fourth seed Indian duo of Tanisha Kashyap and Sarvya Shivani Chilakalapudi who got the better of Indian pair Sharannya Gaware and Sivanuja Peddada 6-2, 7-6(3) in the semi-final today.
