Promoting peace
Gauhati University Teachers’ Association organised a seminar on Peace Education and the Northeast at the university’s Faculty House recentlyAmarjyoti Choudhury, vice-chancellor of the university, inaugurated the seminar.
Niru Hazarika of the political science department delivered the keynote address, highlighting the necessity of peace education in the Northeast.
She said peace was a continuous process, which should be a part of the human psyche.
Deputy inspector general of police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta was the main speaker.
He stressed the need for checking the supply of illegal weapons in the state.
Indrani Phukan of the department of psychology spoke on the psychological perspective of peace education.
Workshop
The ICFAI National College organised a personality development workshop at its Silpukhuri (Guwahati) campus on April 28The workshop targeted graduates and graduating students to help them choose the right career and at fulfilling the institute’s social commitment.
Keeping in mind the needs of the students, an intensive curriculum was taken up to hone their skills and enhance their personality.
The participants were taught to write their resume, enhance communication skills, face interviews, group discussions and the basics of computer and Internet.
Further guidance will be provided in choosing the right career, based on the results of psychometric tests conducted on the students to determine their personality.
More than 40 students from different colleges in Guwahati attended the workshop. The response was very positive.
For most of the students, this free workshop was the first of its kind, the release claimed.
A valedictory function was organised to award citations to the participants by Dipak Kumar Das, ICFAI National College regional head of the northeastern states.
Priya Jain, Chandita Das and Anjana Batala were awarded prizes.
Parents, members of the corporate sector and alumni of ICFAI National College attended the function.

Convocation
The 9th convocation of IIT Guwahati will be held on May 25.The institute has asked graduating students, who have already completed all requirements for obtaining their degrees, to confirm their participation by signing a register at the academic section of the institute. To attend the convocation, graduating students will have to be present on campus from 10 am onwards on May 24 for rehearsals.
Students will receive their degrees the next day only if they participate in the rehearsal.
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi will be the chief guest on the occasion.
