Rebel held

Tinsukia, Feb. 27: The Assam Rifles arrested an NSCN (I-M) cadre, self-styled lance corporal Akha Wangsu, from Longding village in Arunachal Pradesh today. A pistol, five rounds of A-K series rifles, two rounds of ammunition and opium were recovered from his possession.

Condolence

Guwahati: Meghalaya governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday condoled the death of 17 churchgoers, who were killed in a road mishap in West Khasi Hills district on Sunday morning. The deceased belonged to Nginiong, Nongbudum and Mawbyrkong villages in the district.

Guwahati: Nagaland governor P.B. Acharya congratulated Linda Newmai on being awarded the Humanity Achievers award 2017 instituted by Nivedita Foundation and A.R. Foundation, New Delhi.

Fish kiosk

Guwahati: Additional district commissioner T. Nchumbemo Odyuo on Monday inaugurated a fish kiosk at Tuensang town in Nagaland and congratulated the fishery department and Chang Khulei Setshang, a local organisation, for constructing the store which will provide clean fish to the people of the town.

Outreach

Guwahati: The Tuensang unit of the directorate of field publicity, ministry of information and broadcasting, Nagaland, organised a special outreach programme with focus on Mission Indradhanush, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, population stabilisation and anaemia in adolescent girls at Noksen town on Monday.

Blast

Imphal (PTI): An explosion took place outside the house of two editors here on Monday after militants allegedly planted a bomb, police said. There were no reports of any casualty but a car was damaged. The editors work for a Manipuri daily and a local cable television, police said.

Budget

Aizawl (PTI): The budget session of Mizoram Assembly will begin on March 14, additional secretary of the Assembly S.R. Zokhuma said on Monday. Finance minister Lalsawta will present the state's annual budget in the Assembly on March 16.
