Guwahati, May 3: Three-wicket scalps each by Abhay Yadav and Kaushik Giri helped bowl out holders NF Railway for a modest first innings total of 197 in 82.2 overs on the first day of their four-day Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district elite group cricket tournament at Barsapara cricket stadium here today.
Electing to bat, NF Railway were never comfortable as wickets tumbled at regular intervals throughout the innings.
Silchar, too, lost a quick wicket in dependable opener Yatin Mallick, to be reduced to four for one in 2.1 overs at close of play today. Off-spinner Arlen Konwar picked up the wicket.
Earlier, wicketkeeper-batsman Kunal Saikia topscored for NF Railway with a breezy 65 off 85 balls.
Opener Chandan Rawat scored a patient knock of 51 runs, hitting five boundaries facing 174 deliveries. Tarjinder Singh (25, 4x1), Parvez Aziz (19, 4x2) and Sibsankar Roy (10, 4x1) were the only other railmen to score in double figures. Giri returned with the figures of three for 10 off only two overs while Yadav scalped three for 52 off 20.2 overs. Mihir Deb also claimed two for 35.
Inter-school cricket: Delhi Public School and Srimanta Shankar Academy posted emphatic victories in their respective matches of the 5th Golap Hazarika inter-school (under-15) cricket tournament at Janata Bhawan Parade Ground here today.
While DPS tamed Happy Montessori High School by 67 runs, Shankar Academy handed a 65-run defeat to Maharshi Vidya Mandir.
In the morning, DPS posted 136 for nine in 20 overs. Happy Montessori were skittled out for 69 in 14.4 overs.
In the other match, Shankar Academy scored 121 for seven in 15 overs and Maharishi boys were bundled out for 56 in 12 overs.
