Guwahati, Dec 22: Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader P.A. Sangma today announced a new team of office-bearers for Assam.

Prabin Sarma replaces former chief minister Sarat Chandra Sinha as the president of the state unit.

Sangma said Sinha had asked to be relieved of the responsibility on grounds of bad health. He will be included in the party?s central working committee.

Legislators Abdul Jabbar and Ali Akbar Mian, who joined the NCP after being expelled from the AGP, have been rewarded with the posts of vice president and general secretary respectively while senior leader Dhirendra Deb Adhikari has been made the working president.

On his party?s strategy for the Assembly polls in Assam next year, Sangma said new political alignments would become clear in a couple of months.

?We have not yet decided on our alliance, we will decide in two months? time,? the former Lok Sabha Speaker said, adding that he would be in the state from January to strengthen the party?s base.
