Navajyoti Club drub FCI 3-0

Guwahati, Aug. 19: Navajyoti Club today bounced back with a 3-0 win against Food Corporation of India (FCI) SC in the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Super League football tournament at Nehru Stadium here.

After their solitary goal defeat against Dynamo Club, the Navajyoti men today started off aggressively to clinch a 2-0 lead as early as the first half.

Striker Jessy Vanlalmuana drew first blood in the 19th minute, converting a sitter set by skipper Vavlalzuidika inside the goalbox.

Lalduhawma enhanced the lead with another goal in the 33rd minute.

It was Ishak Sangma, who was on the prowl on the right flank, who fired in the third goal with a powerpacked shot off a pass from the top of the box that get deflected off the hands of FCI custodian Bitul Khanikar into the net two minutes into the final added time of three minutes.

The Navajyoti men dominated the first half and initiated the first move as early as the second minute when Sangma managed to lob the ball overhead glovesman Khanikar. However, the ball went too high.

They got another opportunity in the ninth minute, but Vanlalmuana’s header off a Lalduhawma cross from the left flank rebounded from the woodwork.

The second half was an altogether different ball game, thanks to some brilliant play from seasoned midfielder David March Goyari.

Navajyoti custodian Subhajit Barman also made several spectacular saves to clinch the victory.

Dynamo Club will meet Sunrise Athletic Club in a high voltage fixture tomorrow.

A Division League: In the Jibeswar Goswami Guwahati first division league match played on the second turf of the same ground, City Police tamed Rajbari Athletic Club 6-1 in a one-sided affair.

Kamal Das opened the floodgates for City Police in the 32nd minute and striker Rishikesh Medhi enhanced the lead with a brace in the 40th and 53rd minutes.

Manoj Ahmed and skipper Amulya Das consolidated the lead with two more goals before Medhi fired in his third goal in the 82nd minute.
