Aizawl: The Mizoram government will give cash incentives to students who successfully clear various competitive examinations of the central and state governments.

This was announced by the newly appointed Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC) chairman Joseph Lalhimpuia during a news conference here on Wednesday.

Lalhlimpuia said the government will give a cash incentive of Rs 50,000 to every candidate who clears civil services (prelims), Combined Medical Services examination, Indian Engineering Service examination and other services and Rs 1 lakh each to those who successfully clear civil services (main) examination, Combined Defence Services examination, National Defence Academy and Naval Academy examinations.

He said the move aims to encourage students to opt for central services and state services.

He said Rs 30 lakh and Rs 80 lakh have been allocated respectively under the Revised Estimate (RE) and New Economic Development Policy (NEDP) for the purpose.

He said IIT-JEE/NEET coaching class centres will be opened here (northern Mizoram zone) and Lunglei (southern Mizoram zone). The new centres will collaborate with the existing ones here and the government will meet 75 per cent of a student's expenses.

Lalhlimpuia said youth summit-cum-road shows would be organised in all the district headquarters, including Aizwal, to make students aware about the competitive examinations.

The event will be held on March 22 and 23 here.

An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) coaching centre will be opened here on March 12 for BSc/GNM nursing students and a one-month crash course will start on March 10 for those who will write this year's SBI assistant grade examination, he added.
