Agartala: Tripura transport minister and cabinet spokesperson Pranajit Singha Roy on Tuesday accused the CPM of "politicising death" and said efforts were under way to undermine chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and his government.

Speaking to reporters, Singha Roy said the CPM accused his party of involvement in two cases of death at Amarpur and Shantirbazaar sub-division earlier this month. "Police investigations in both have found no political conspiracy so far. One person was arrested in connection with the murder at Amarpur, who is a CPM local committee leader," the minister said. He "condemned and vehemently opposed" the attacks on his party over the death cases and said the attacks were meant to malign the chief minister.

Singha Roy also trained guns at the CPM state mouthpiece Daily Desher Katha over the issue and said it was spreading malicious campaigns.

However, the minister declined to issue any repressive measures on media.

The family of Rakesh Dhar, 28, who was found hanging near his residence at Baikhora in South Tripura district, on April 13 this year, accused three persons of his murder in an FIR. However, none of them were arrested. Call records of the victim suggested that he was called by one Billu Roy, a meat supplier from Shantirbazaar, who he owed Rs 4 lakh. However, he has not been arrested.

The CPM later alleged that Rakesh was murdered by BJP workers.

Ajendra Reang, 27, from Kurma in Amarpur sub-division, was also found hanging near his home on April 11. He was a CPM indigenous youth leader.

The police later arrested one Samir Rudrapal, secretary of the CPM's Amarpur south local committee for his murder.
