Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, breaking his silence on the poor performance of students in the recent CBSE examinations, on Tuesday said "the results were well anticipated as no-detention policy had deteriorated the learning levels of the students". The state's class X pass percentage was 22.22 and that of class XII was 44.33.

"The government has taken the right decision to do away with the no-detention policy for students as it was doomed to fail. The fail system has been re-introduced to motivate students to learn and perform better," he told members of Arunachal Pradesh Teachers Association here.

On shortage of subject teachers, Khandu said recruitment will be conducted soon by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission to fill up the vacant posts. He said rationalisation of teachers' postings will be implemented for equitable distribution of teachers in the state and textbooks are being made available with schools in adequate numbers through direct procurement from NCERT.
