Guwahati, May 11: Gauhati Town Club Cricket Academy lifted the 1st Jatindra Rabha and Renu Baruah all-Assam inter-cricket coaching centre (under-16) cricket tournament title, defeating Santipur Cricket Coaching Centre by three wickets in the final at Latasil ground here today.
Trailing by 57 runs after being bowled out for 95 in the first innings yesterday, the Santipur outfit today took a chance, declaring their second innings at 167 for nine in 45 overs.
The GTC Academy boys, who scored 152 in the first innings, today romped home, scoring 112 for seven in 27 overs in their second innings.
For the Santipur side, Mehraj Ali topscored with 33 (4x5) and Sahil Islam remained not out on 31 (4x2, 6x3) and Abdul Islam chipped in with 20 (4x3).
Sujit Gowala of GTC Academy hauled six wickets for 40 runs while Suraj Ray and Mauzzam Ansari picked up one wicket each.
Gowala also topscored for GTC academy with an unbeaten stroke of 35 (4x4, 6x2) and Wasir Ahmed contributed a useful 25 (4x2, 6x1).
Mehraj Ali of Santipur notched up four wickets for 23 runs and Neeraj Das picked up two for 27.
Gowala was adjudged Man of the Match and Rohit Sarma of host River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre bagged the Man of the Tournament.
Biplob Saikia and Sahil Islam of Santipur CCC were named the Best Batsman and Fielder respectively and Abhirup Bhattacharjyya of GTC academy was named the Best Bowler. Jitu Ali of Santipur CCC and Abir Chakraborty of River Rine CCC were named the Most Promising Players of the tournament.
