Imphal, May 17: The director of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, today warned all its employees against any wrongdoing.
JNIMS director Laishram Deven had yesterday suspended N. Romesh Singh, an attendant of the radio diagnosis department, for taking money from patients who came for ultrasound screening, which is free. The attendant is accused of taking Rs 400 per patient.
The director took the action after the anti-corruption cell of the state government forwarded a complaint, which was lodged by an undisclosed person with video recording proof that the attendant took money, to the institute.
"We suspended the employee after receiving the evidence of graft and we submitted an action taken report (suspension) to the cell. We appreciate the initiative taken by the new government to check corrupt practices," the director told The Telegraph.
Sources in the cell said the video clip showed the attendant taking Rs 400 and telling another patient to wait outside for his turn.
"The suspension is a warning to all employees of the institute. Any wrongdoing is not going to be tolerated. The public can complain personally to me, to the medical superintendent or the 'May I help you counter' located at the OPD. And we will take action in five days," the director said, continuing to crack the whip against graft.
He said written grievances can also be dropped at the complaint box placed at the OPD and the identity of the complainant would not be disclosed.
A screening committee, headed by chief secretary O. Nabakishore Singh, will examine the action taken report and take the next course of action on the attendant's case.
"If the committee is dissatisfied with the action taken by the JNIMS authorities, it may make recommendations for more action against the attendant," an official of the cell said.
