Jorhat, Oct. 7: The Supreme Court has upheld Gauhati High Court’s dismissal of a petition claiming that the appointment of Kandarpa Kumar Deka as the vice-chancellor of Dibrugarh University was not in conformity with the Act of the University.

The apex court, in its order dated September 30, 2013, dismissed special leave application No. 26237/2012 (civil), submitted by some petitioners against “dismissal” of PIL 22/2011 filed in the high court.

The former vice-chancellor who completed a term of five years this year received a copy of the order last evening.

Kandarpa Kumar Deka was appointed as the vice- chancellor of Dibrugarh University on March 31, 2008 for a term of five years by the then governor of Assam and chancellor, Dibrugarh University.
