Kokrajhar, March 20: The four BTAD districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri are slowly getting into election mood as political parties inaugurated a poll steering committee office and embarked on campaigning, with the declaration of the BTC poll date.
However, no candidates have so far submitted their nomination papers. Receipt of nomination papers started yesterday and will continue till 3pm of March 25 and scrutiny will be done on March 26.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 28 and the same day the final list of contestants will be published. Repolling, if any, will be held on April 10 and counting of votes will take place on April 11.
The final electoral roll of Kokrajhar district for the BTC election has been published.
The state election commission, according to the provision of rule 11 of the BTC (Election) Rules, 2004, has notified the time schedule for preparation and publication of constituency-wise electoral roll for conduct of election to the council.
Kokrajhar deputy commissioner and district returning officer Thaneswar Malakar has streamlined the duty of the officers constituency-wise. The officers concerned have been given directives to supervise the functioning of designated officers and provide necessary help and guidance as and when required for preparation of error-free electoral roll.
Malakar said claims and objections received by designated officers against their polling stations should be disposed of according to rule, and manuscripts prepared and submitted to the election officer, Kokrajhar, through the concerned assistant returning officer (ARO) within the time frame of the commission.
There are 73 polling stations in Fakiragram constituency against 60,604 voters, 63 polling stations against 47,920 voters at Banargaon constituency, 73 polling stations against 55,200 voters in Debargaon constituency, 52 polling stations against 41,030 voters in Baokhungri constituency and 56 polling stations against 43,764 voters in Salakati constituency in Kokrajhar subdivision.
In Porbotjhora constituency, there are 66 polling stations against 55,277 voters.
In six constituencies under Gossaigaon subdivision, there are 63 polling stations against 50,002 voters in Guma constituency, 49 polling stations against 39,051 voters in Srirampur constituency, 57 polling stations against 43,875 voters in Jomduar constituency, 71 polling stations against 51,683 voters in Soraibil constituency, 72 polling stations against 51,457 voters in Kachugaon constituency and 59 polling stations against 46,286 voters in Dotma constituency.
There are 12 council constituencies in Kokrajhar district.
The AGP has decided to contest at least in eight constituencies in the BTC election.
Till now it has declared candidates for five constituencies and the rest will be declared soon.
AGP general secretary Durgadas Bodo said they have discussed with a few regional parties and several organisations that have made their maiden entry into politics with the election.
Jakir Hussain will contest from Fakiragram constituency, Ashini Barman from Mothamguri (both in Kokrajhar), Bhairabh Deka from Goreswar, Apurba Kumar Deka from Mwdwibari and Bhanu Sahu from Pasnwi Serfang constituency (all in Baksa district).
